„It is wonderful that what Jiří Bělohlávek started lives on and that young musicians are still being supported. There is that helping hand which everyone needs at a certain moment. That is where I see the immense legacy of Jiří Bělohlávek.“

About me

Robert Kružík belongs to the young generation of Czech conductors.

He was born in Brno, where he started out as a cellist and later graduated from the Brno Conservatory, studying cello (with Miroslav Zicha) as well as conducting (with Stanislav Kummer).

He continued his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where he was taught conducting by Leoš Svárovský and Charles Olivieri-Munroe.

He successfully took part in a number of cello competitions, among them the Prague Spring, the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Competition and the Leoš Janáček International Competition in Brno. He also completed a study residency at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in Switzerland.

What they wrote about me

“Robert Kružík conducted the orchestra with precision and incisive assurance. His debut surprised with its unexpected precision and emphasis on the spiritual grandeur of the work.”

Milan Bátor

Ostravan.cz

“The orchestra under the direction of Robert Kružík revealed its sensitive and intimate side. Some scenes were unusually quiet, creating an unexpectedly powerful and breathtaking impression.”

Veronika Paroulková

KlasikaPlus.cz

“Robert Kružík conducted the performance in such a way that Smetana’s music sounded exactly as it should—lyrical, dramatic, classical… and, without a doubt, already more modern than The Bartered Bride.”

Petr Veber

Klasika Plus

“The award that conductor Robert Kružík received is not only proof of his exceptional talent and artistic maturity, but also a great recognition for the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic.”

Martina Hladíková

Deputy Mayor for Culture, Zlín

“The interpretation blends seamlessly with the Prague Philharmonia’s rich and malleable sonorities, as well as with Robert Kružík’s balanced and transparent reading. With elegant and harmonious gestures, the Moravian conductor adopts a flexible approach to tempo and phrasing, always giving the soloist ample space without ever overshadowing him, while bringing a natural fluidity to Tchaikovsky’s score.”

Stefano Balbiani

Stresa Festival

“Kružík, employing broad and supple gestures, opts for a clear and airy orchestral direction, lively in its dynamic shifts and supported by the flexible, creamy sound of the Prague Philharmonia, which follows the conductor’s instructions without hesitation.”
